Understanding Agenda for Change pay
Agenda for Change has been the NHS pay framework since 2004. It groups jobs into nine bands using a national job-evaluation scheme, so roles of similar weight are paid consistently across the health service. Your band is fixed by your role; your pay point within it rises with experience.
AfC also governs unsocial hours payments (Section 2), annual leave, and sick pay. High Cost Area Supplements add 5%–20% for staff in and around London. To include enhancements in your take-home estimate, add them to the gross salary in the calculator.
